Brindisi Shines with New Light
Brindisi, on the Adriatic coast of Puglia, is a very old city and numbers among the largest natural ports throughout the Mediterranean Sea. It is called the “Gateway to the Orient” on account of its strategic geographical position. Linked to Rome by the famous Appian Way, it was one of the most important ports in the entire Empire. It was also famous in the Middle Ages as a place of departure for crusades in the Holy Land.
With an ambitious project, City Green Light has transformed radically the city lights. Sodium lamps have been replaced with Neri LED kits in the 1,850 Neri lanterns mounted in past decades on cast iron lampposts and brackets, while 350 Light 100s have been installed in the narrower alleys. The streets in the old city centre, the Cathedral Square and the long avenues leading to the port have changed face, converting everything into a magnificent open-air salon.
