Redevelopment in the heart of the fashion capital
The revival of a historic Palazzo
Casa Girola is one of Milan’s historic buildings, built in the late 1800s as the headquarters of the construction company from which it takes its name. Subject to a subsequent restoration by Piero Portaluppi between 1910 and 1932, today it has been restored once more thanks to a detailed redevelopment project realised by the Progetto CMR studio. The objective is to bring new life to the structure, introducing elements of lightness, fluidity and elegance, typical of modern and contemporary styling, whilst maintaining the strong bond with its past.
The result is a dynamic and fluid continuum between the various environments, perceptible from the building’s entrance where – thanks to the large windows in the main courtyard – it is possible to appreciate the depth and succession of expansive spaces such as the gallery along with the informal and flexible areas characterised by the presence of ethereal features and green walls.
A SCULPTURE IN LIGHT
The restoration work, which concerned the entire building and its interiors, occupied by the tenant Banca Immobiliare, saw the painstaking use of noble materials in innovative forms. Historicity and modernity are aligned through the search for a contemporary style that communicates with the past.
From the entrance on Via Broletto, a white ribbon with golden edges unfurls, running along the hall, reaching the main courtyard in the form of a luminous sculpture projected towards the sky. Indeed, light is one of the pivotal aspects on which the redevelopment plays. Alongside the natural light, the Linea Light Group team was called upon to develop a lighting project with an attention to detail that, through the use of various professional solutions, best emphasised the final result. Outdoors, for example, Rubber 2D LED strips were installed to delineate the courtyard, being very flexible and able to ensure uniform light across the entire expanse, also at the junction points. Inside the building, right from the entrance, the PU_C LED strip was installed, continuing along the stairs and corridors, with the Pool ceiling lights offering a minimal and unfussy design that is ideal for creating cosy and diffused lighting, along with downlights from the Cob family, characterised by their small dimensions, efficient performance and great practicality in terms of installation.
Finally, we come to the offices where, to illuminate the desks, a dual Rollip 70 mc at a length of 4.5 metres was installed with a unique multi-filter diffuser for uniform and continuous emission throughout the entire luminaire structure. The result is homogeneous lighting, perfect for the office area, ensuring high visual comfort even in the presence of terminals and devices typical of the workplace.
The true protagonist of the lighting project designed to enhance the redevelopment operation is undoubtedly the Tour suspension light, a truly spectacular fixture able to guarantee diffused and uniform illumination throughout the environment in which it is installed. Here, the various versions have been fitted in different areas, in the meeting room on the top floor of the building near the terrace, downstairs and even in the basement.
Outside, rather, a completely customised Tour “Maxi” has been installed in the main courtyard, for a veritable luminous sculpture projected towards the sky.
Specially designed and realised by the Linea Light Group team based on an idea developed by Progetto CMR, the Tour “Maxi” not only aligns perfectly to the context in which the figure has been installed but also enhances and highlights the space to perfection. Supported by special cables connecting to a central metal ring able to withstand the wind, the Tour “Maxi” consists of 2 suspension lights of 4.80 metres in diameter intertwined with another 2 suspension lights measuring 3.20 metres, with the central light emission being suited for outdoors. The spectacular effect is ensured, both during the daytime and evening.
