PROJECT DETAILS
CUSTOM LIGHTING BY VISO IN B.C. CASINO
The VISO Design Studio embarked on an ambitious customization project for the new Cascades Casino in Kamloops, British Columbia. The goal of this $34 million project was to create the world’s ultimate gaming and entertainment destination. Working with longtime partner mackaywong, VISO created several stunning custom lighting installations all around the property.
Guests are welcomed at each entrance with three Moss light fixtures that express the playfulness and exuberance of the venue. As guests venture out on to the gaming floor, they will find six sets of oval rings. Each set has three rings gyrating inside one another at different angles and height. The largest ring in each set measures 20 feet on its longest axis. The complexity of the custom rings was in the wiring. In order to wire the controls, VISO had to send a technician up a 30-foot scissor lift and wire each individual light in the dark. Brooks Munroe, technical manager at VISO was onsite at the casino overlooking the installation and describes the process: “In order to wire the controls of the custom Oval Rings on the gaming floor, we had to climb a 30-foot scissor lift, poke our heads into the drop ceiling with flashlights on our construction hats and literally wired each individual light in relative darkness! The irony of the working in complete darkness to bring light to the finish product!”
For the Atlas Steak + Fish restaurant, located in the casino, VISO created 3 spectacular custom lighting fixtures. Over the bar, 88 sleek chrome modern twigs that resemble antlers are suspended under a mirrored canopy with recess spotlights. The bar is situated beside the main dining area which features the spectacular Amber Wave installation. This design features 1,156 drops of amber coloured glass disks separated by a clear glass spacer. The drops are arranged perfectly in 25 rows to simulate a wave measuring 396”/10,058mm wide by 216”/5,486mm long which took three days to install. VISO also supplied black Dome pendants for the banquets in the restaurant which adds a modern touch to the dining space.
For the private dining area, VISO created a large-scale decorative structure that resembles a fossilized pre-historic animal. The decorative structure hangs beneath a large mirrored canopy and is lit by LED lights to create a fantastical lighting effect of being in another era.
