PROJECT DETAILS
The last twenty years have seen a notable development in the IT industry of Cochin, one of the largest seaports in India. This is the part of India reached by Vasco da Gama at the end of the fifteenth century, and it is here that he died and was buried. The city has recently been the subject of a vast energy renewal project by Cochin Smart Mission Limited. In particular, the lighting has been redesigned in the main city street and its parallel pedestrian walkway alongside the sea, named after Abdul Kalam, in the Jew Town with its artistic and local shops and, lastly, around the exterior of the Fort, which dates from the period of Portuguese domination. For each of these areas, a different product by Neri S.p.A. has been chosen, with the aim of enhancing the different environments, throwing into relief the specific character of each.
The main street, much of which consists of dual carriageways, is notable for its heavy traffic. It required illumination with light 37 mounted on tall lampposts placed on either side or, where there is a dual carriageway, in the central reservation. Smaller lampposts were used to illuminate the pavements, with Light 104 mounted in small lyre-shaped luminaires.
The promenade along the seafront, with its bridges, shops, flower beds and great flowering trees, is dedicated to Abdul Kalam, the famous President of India from 2002 to 2007, known as the President of the People. The Mizar series with Light 106 has been chosen for its illumination. This urban space is full of life, especially during the evenings. The tourist boats leave from here and the view of the gulf is breathtaking.
At the end of the street, some small cast iron lampposts were already in place. These have not been removed, but simply updated with Lantern Light 85.
Lantern Light 85, instead, has been used for the small cast iron lampposts, with decorated arms, installed many years ago in the central streets of Jew Town, while for the external zone, between the great trees and around the Portuguese Fort, choice fell upon the Tabit series, in cast iron, with Lantern Light 600.
