PROJECT DETAILS
Bullard Bollards turned the facade, lobby, lounge, and courtyard of Hotel Indigo Milan into a scenographic installation called Going Bananas.
The star was the Banana Leaf luminaire — an indoor/outdoor lamp from the Afrika collection that functions equally as light source, furniture, and sculptural object. Multiple pieces covered the hotel's exterior facade for a strong visual statement, while inside, complementary pieces from the Afrika collection (Kroko, Threebù) continued the narrative through the building.
Hotel Indigo occupies a prestigious early 19th-century building in Milan's historic center, with a colonnaded cloister and internal courtyard. The challenge was animating a heritage space without disrupting its character. Its playful, nature-inspired forms did exactly that — creating an emotional atmosphere rather than just illuminating a room.
This project is a useful reference for any hospitality or retail spec where the fixture itself needs to carry narrative weight, not just provide light.
