PROJECT DETAILS
The Karrinyup Shopping Centre was originally built in 1972. In 1996 it was widely renovated and in 2018 a series of extensions were begun that were completed in 2022.
This Karrinyup Shopping Centre revitalisation project not only refurbished the existing mall it also doubled its size to create a contemporary global entertainment centre. Electrolight worked closely with AMP, Taylor Robinson, Hames Sharley, Seedesign Landscape Studio and Multiplex to create a perfect lighting design for this shopping environment that is unique in Perth.
The heart of this new Karrinyup centre is now The West Deck, a plaza reminiscent of an urban square with outdoor shops and restaurants. The lighting concept for the West Deck was driven by a desire to move away from conventional outdoor shopping mall lighting to a more sophisticated coastal resort-style atmosphere. The challenge was to create a sense of intimacy, visual interest and surprise, while satisfying all the mall's security and functional requirements. Electrolight developed a series of integrated lighting layers that come on in the evening to transform the West Deck’s bright and airy daytime atmosphere into a theatrical and immersive night-time experience.
Elettrolux's lighting concept was created with Laser Blade luminaires for the interiors and the InOut version mounted along the external canopies. Walky recessed luminaires gently illuminate the walkways, while the plants are highlighted by Light Up Earth.
