PROJECT DETAILS
With the addition of the “Quadriga”, a multi-section building complex whose radiant silhouette rises above the historic brick façades of the former rail freight yard in the northern section of Freiburg, the aspiring quarter situated among avenues and promenades has been given a new face. The project that melds the concept of working and living in such a stunning way was brought to life by Kirschner, a real-estate developer in the southwestern German city. What’s more, the developer has turned the place into its own new home as well.
Beaming from the inside: when architecture begins to sparkle
The focus of the furnishings used in the family-run company’s new headquarters was clearly defined from the very beginning: a representative appearance and a pleasing room atmosphere. The company paid meticulous attention to every small detail, including, in particular, the lighting, as it strove to create first-class design – from the reception area to the managing director’s office. When it came to providing the right lighting for the entire office floor, Kirschner drew on the comprehensive expertise of Occhio. The result is a harmonious whole in which the top floor where Kirschner’s offices are located appears to float once night sets in.
The collective as the basis, the individual as the measure of all things: The client was determined to create customised lighting scenes based on the needs of a particular situation. In response, Occhio devised a plan in which each individual room takes on a captivating life of its own, even as they all remain part of a holistic lighting concept in which one of Occhio’s extremely versatile luminaires plays the starring role: Più. The use of Più recessed spotlights produces a soothing elemental atmosphere throughout the entire floor. It is an atmosphere that is accentuated by the conscious use of other selected Occhio models that create discreet, but self-assured highlights in the widest range of facets.
Arriving, being, feeling.
You feel the continuity and lightness of being immediately after you step into the reception area, a feeling produced by base illumination provided by the recessed spotlight Più piano edge, which connects all rooms like some sort of invisible thread. Playing an attendant role at some times and an accenting role at others, the luminaires are arranged in continuous lines that run throughout the hallways and intermediate zones and extend to the offices and communication areas. The entire concept is interwoven with an airy, pleasant transparency that allows the light to gleam all the way to the outer facade.
People and rooms in dialogue
Clients are invited into a conference room, an area that greets them with an array of golden and earthen colours. The flair of the upholstery fabric, the wall design, the carpet and a table made of cognac-coloured wood are accented by the powerful presence of Mito sospeso in exquisite rose gold. At the same time, Più recessed spotlights produce punctual highlights in the appropriate colour temperature.
Architecture and design as one
The penchant for linear stringency that forcefully asserts itself in the architecture is clearly reflected in the selection of the linear Occhio luminaire Mito volo: An elegant, timeless black was chosen for the lean, height-adjustable suspended luminaires above the desks whose light can be adjusted directly or indirectly depending on the situation. These luminaires can be viewed as a type of replica in terms of the soft door frames in the glass dividing walls and window frames.
