LIGHTING THE LANDSCAPE
Amidst the hustle and bustle of central London there’s a slice of tranquillity – London Wall Place.
Lighting Designers StudioFractal worked alongside MAKE Architects and Spacehub Landscape Architects to create a new peaceful oasis.
Take five
Commuters and city dwellers can relax in the one acre of landscaped space set between office buildings. Making the area even more enticing is the ruins of St. Alphage Church and the roman London Wall – connected by the new lighting scheme.
StudioFractal’s Design Director, Ian Payne explained that he wanted to create an ambience akin to a residential garden. Layered lighting creates a visually interesting environment and enhances the materials – from stone to metal and water to planting.
acdc’s BLADE MICRO, BLADE PRO and FINO help illuminate the architectural features, both modern and heritage – creatively revealing the character of the development during the hours of darkness.
Product placement
Buried uplights were integrated at the base of columns to highlight the main structural elements of the surrounding building, while lines of light highlight the back wall within the ramped garden, picking up the textured finish, creating a soft background to the planters.
Lines of light were also used for a water feature to accent either end and highlight the movement of water falling down the wall.
Senior Lighting Designer at StudioFractal, Alex Lang said, ‘we selected the blade product not only for the range of beam angles and glare control it offered, but also for the clean look of the product. Fino was also used for its discreet size and high IP rating.’
