PROJECT DETAILS
As the world’s largest cricket ground by capacity and the largest sports stadium in the southern hemisphere, the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is home to the Melbourne Cricket Club and many sporting, music and cultural events since 1854. With the goal to improve and personalize customer experience at MCG, customized exterior dynamic lighting has been integrated as part of the “Smart Stadium” upgrade. The dynamic façade lighting design transforms MCG into an iconic landmark at night time with visible themes that showcase the colors of competing sporting teams. Over 750 meters of customized Traxon Media Tube® RGB are used to create linear ribbons of dynamic colored lighting at each of the seven entry gates around the stadium. More than 240 pieces of Traxon Washer Shield AC XB RGB illuminate the upper façade of the stadium and feature areas on the Great Southern Stand. Over 500 meters of Traxon Nano Liner Allegro AC XB RGB illuminate the façade on the Northern Stand. The dynamic façade lighting installation is controlled via the e:cue networked DMX control system, including a Lighting Control Engine and 52 units of Butler S2, which distributes the lighting control on a Fiber Optic network that connects all the smart lighting. Different preprogrammed lighting scenes can be easily selected on a custom touch screen interface with a central server. As an iconic global sporting venue, MCG is one of the most technologically advanced stadiums in the world where the fan experience is immersive, customized, and engaging.
