The new frontier of shopping
Light immersion
The temple to shopping and so much more. The Nicosia Mall is the ideal place to spend the entire day with over 150 shops, bars, restaurants and cinemas (no less than 5!). Designed for visitors of all ages, it is located in Lakatamia, not far from the centre of the capital, surrounded by green spaces, the focus of the architectural project with which it was built. The result is plain to see: a linear and curved building, laid out horizontally which blends seamlessly into the surroundings, featuring an eight thousand square metre external open space where exhibitions and events can be organised. So, not just your average shopping mall then, but a destination which offers a combined shopping, dining and entertainment experience in a modern, elegant setting.
SOPHISTICATED LIGHTING FOR EVOCATIVE ATMOSPHERES
The architectural project was developed by ATA Architects & Engineers and Mete Sysm S.A Architects & Consulting Engineers with the aim of creating an all-round immersive experience for visitors. The building is laid out on two floors (with the basement and mezzanine floor considered as additional levels) from where you can access the shops in the mall. Outside, the signature feature of the entrances is a series of overhanging roofs which makes them equally attractive from a commercial point of view. Inside, the layout deliberately follows curved lines, creating a continuous play on prospective which allows visitors to discover the space as they venture inside. The indoor and outdoor design is further accentuated by a meticulously planned lighting project conceived and implemented by Linea Light Group with the installation of a series of professional light fixtures both in standard and custom versions.
Visitors are initially struck by the outdoor lighting, of course, which has been studied down to the very last detail. It starts with the overhanging roofs for which the Rollip 70 linear lighting profile was chosen, used with different installation methods: recessed in the ceiling on the ground floor in different sizes to create an idea of movement and energy; in the custom pendant version on the first floor, for a more elegant and modern result. Particular attention was paid to the façade of the building where a custom version of the tubular fixture Maxi Tube was used (two interconnected tubes). The goal was to achieve a spectacular dramatic effect with lighting that also emphasises the architectural outline of the mall.
The outdoor lighting project continues with the illumination of the external staircase which leads from the ground floor to the terrace, highlighted by Joe, the minimalist stair light, which ensures controlled, glare-free lighting. Lastly, the outdoor service areas. The Ryo bollard was chosen to mark the edge of paths and flower beds, combining modern lines with an ultra-soft, glare-free light; the Nicro uplight for the mall entrance which is recessed into the ground, adds a spectacular, starlight effect. Mini Parker for road lighting and the My White bollard in the parking areas add the finishing touches to the outdoor lighting project.
Indoors, the main aim of the light project was to highlight all the settings, immersing visitors in an elegant atmosphere whilst ensuring a comprehensive shopping experience. Cob20, the ultra-compact downlight, used in the entrance lobby, is easy to install and provides excellent lighting. The Diphy pendant lights by Stilnovo, in different sizes, are specially dedicated to the two water features (a vertical “curtain” and a jet) that connect the two shopping floors, to provide visitors with a natural, Zen-like setting. The eye-catching “crystal petals” effect which twirl over the water is truly spectacular.
Every floor of the mall also features a specific colour, which is repeated in the floor, furnishing and even in the colour of the false ceilings. Here, in particular, the combination of wood and colour is highlighted by the light that includes the use of Rollip 70, the linear profile recessed in the wood and used in different lengths to recreate that dynamic sensation of the external part, alongside the downlight Warp, with a shape designed to optimise lighting efficiency, and the Nitum recessed spotlight, perfect for creating grids of spotlights and conjuring up a very spectacular starlight effect. To highlight the entrances to the various shops, on the other hand, hidden ceiling lighting was provided by installing the Ribbon Plus led strips.
Lastly, great attention was paid to the ceiling of the mall where the Warp downlight, thanks to the extra thin flange, fits and blends seamlessly into the false ceiling. Warm Tune™, featured in the lighting fixture, also allows the light to be dimmed and obtain the perfect atmosphere.
The project is completed with the service lighting in the restrooms with Woofer downlights and Rollip 35, linear profile, in the corridors.
