PROJECT DETAILS
Precise Illumination for Mother and Baby
On August 3, 2020, amid the coronavirus pandemic, the NewYork-Presbyterian Alexandra Cohen Hospital pressed on and celebrated the grand opening of their new 246,500-square-foot expansion located on the top six floors of the David H. Koch Center in New York City. The state-of-the-art women’s hospital features sixteen labor & delivery rooms, five operating rooms and a 60-bed neonatal intensive care units (NICU) providing the highest designated level of newborn care available.
Each birthing room is furnished with a special multi-positioned birthing bed and Kirlin’s recessed INFRALED 60 remote controlled motorized lighting system (MRS-17600) for enhanced visual acuity during preparation, delivery, and postpartum repairs. INFRALED 60’s two high-angle light heads are independently controlled, and their beams may be superimposed or aimed separately, illuminating the birth canal for early resolution of childbirth challenges.
As a Level IV unit with advanced in-room technologies, the 60-bed NICU is the first in New York City with an MRI and an operating room located within the department. Each private patient room is illuminated with Kirlin’s recessed OPTeMED motorized lighting system (MRR-12642) to provide precise illumination, with an aimable and dimmable LED light head designed to protect the newborn’s sensitive vision.
The collaborative design team of HOK, Ballinger, and Pei Cobb Freed & Partners created a care center that features the most advanced and highly developed equipment and found Kirlin an ideal partner for accomplishing their goals. Dr. Steven J. Corwin, president and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian said, “The hospital’s best-in-class model of care combines outstanding care teams, cutting-edge clinical technologies and a beautiful, nurturing setting that prioritizes our patients’ privacy, safety and comfort.”
