GOLD FOR THE POSTPALACE IN BUDAPEST
In Budapest, everyone knows this building the Postal Palace (Posta Palota). While only few know what might be behind the magnificent building with the red brick walls today.
The sight is the work of the architect planning the reconstruction, Tihamár Szalay, who has been a follower of Gyula Sándy for several decades. The palace, originally designed in 1924, was built for the board building of the Royal Hungarian Post Office.
Today it is owned by the National Bank of Hungary and houses the supervision of financial organisations, consumer protection and a visitor centre open to the public.
REBIRTH ON 18,500 SQM
The seven-storey office building houses the Finance Museum and the Visitor Centre in the lower half of the north wing. The tower, which is one of the symbols of the house, will be open to the public, working as a viewpoint, and a glass elevator will take visitors up. The interactive presentation of economic processes and concepts is intended to promote understanding among visitors.
The former giant chimney has disappeared, but at the same time it has been covered by a glass roof on a golden metal beam in the middle, so that not only natural light can come in at the edges, but also the interior image can prevail. The colour gold is repeated several times, as the corporate colours of the National Bank of Hungary are gold, white and blue.
Our partner Solinfo Group / Lighting Embassy was responsible for the lighting design (directed by Péter Tarjányi) in the new Postpalast. They planned a manifold selection of SATTLER luminaires, all creating a harmonious light and exterior appearance in the space. For sure, not least because everything shines in gold. Everything in a special colour, so that everything is a special luminaire, all manufactured in the SATTLER luminaire manufactory in Göppingen especially for the Postpalast.
The colour gold plays an important role because gold, white and blue are the corporate colours of the Hungarian National Bank.
