PROJECT DETAILS
A significant building
The existing building at St. Olavs plass 5 was constructed for the Oslo Health Council in 1968-1969. The building, designed by architect Erling Viksjø, has a triangular floor plan and is situated on a sloping terrain from St. Olavs plass to Pilestredet. Oslo Health Council is a very fine and representative example of Erling Viksjø's architecture, and it holds significant architectural value. This is reflected in the fact that the building is listed on the municipal list of historically significant buildings and facilities maintained by the City Preservation Office.
The building is designed as a clear and simple volume with uniform facades featuring a grid pattern in exposed concrete. It is prominently defined at the corners as well as at the cornice and base. The building's load-bearing facades are made of exposed concrete, following Erling Viksjø's patented technique. The building has been primarily modernised for new tenants in office spaces, as well as outward-facing activities on the ground floor.
