PROJECT DETAILS
THE PURDUE UNION CLUB HOTEL SITS ADJACENT TO PURDUE UNIVERSITY IN INDIANA, USA. THE HOTEL BEGAN LIFE AS AN ADDITION TO THE PURDUE MEMORIAL UNION AND WAS BUILT IN PHASES FROM 1929-1953. A RENOVATION IN 2020 CREATED A MODERN LUXURY EXPERIENCE FOR UNIVERSITY ALUMNI, FAMILY, AND VISITORS. WE WERE PLEASED TO COOPERATE ONCE AGAIN WITH THE SIMEONE DEARY DESIGN GROUP ON LIGHTING FOR SOME OF THE PROPERTY’S PUBLIC SPACES.
The contemporary design of the interior highlights many of the building's original architectural elements. Preciosa created a variety of custom chandeliers and lighting installations for the hotel. One of the most striking is the ceiling pendant suspended above the registration area. Brass and clear hand-blown, ribbed glass tubes enlighten a library on which historical images about the University are projected.
Additional lighting was created for three dining spaces. In the Leaps Café, hand-blown opal spheres line the counter, suspended from an antique brass metal body. In the 8Eleven restaurant, the rich and warm interiors are highlighted with cylinder-shaped lights finished in black powder coating and accented with an antique brass band. The Boilerup Bar includes hand-blown opal glass and antique brass lighting over the bar as well as similarly styled wall sconces.
As part of the university commitment to developing students of Purdue's White Lodging - J.W. Marriott, Jr. School of Hospitality & Tourism Management, the hotel is used as a place where hospitality students have the opportunity to work and learn about hotel and restaurant operations.
