PROJECT DETAILS
As part of a campus-wide revitalization, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga transformed its 540 McCallie Avenue building on the southeastern edge of campus into a dynamic academic hub. The renovated space now houses classrooms, labs, offices, and performance areas, including a flexible event room designed to host campus functions, rentals, and public gatherings led by WUTC 88.1, Chattanooga’s NPR station.
Suspended at varied heights and placements, Sabin's BLOCK pendants form an organic cluster that evokes a gathering of people. The staggered composition softens the space’s hard finishes and the black suspension hardware melts into the exposed ceiling, creating a floating lantern effect.
A color palette of Sapphire, Flint, and Sand reflects UTC’s cool-toned brand identity, while warm diffuse LEDs introduce a complementary golden glow. Constructed from high-NRC felt, each BLOCK fixture helps absorb sound and enhance audio clarity, creating an acoustically balanced environment for everything from lectures to live music.
