PROJECT DETAILS
Project Brief
The Westin Nova Scotia was built in 1930 as one of the famed Canadian National Railway hotels that stretched across Canada from the Pacific to the Atlantic oceans. Since re-opening as The Westin Nova Scotia, it quickly became a destination landmark for royalty and dignitaries. Its regal connections bridged Halifax to the rest of Canada. Today, this historical property defines the landscape of the Halifax Coastline.
The Design
VISO collaborated closely with design firm Moncur Design Associates to bring the hotel and its guests closer to the natural landscape surrounding the hotel, beautifully marrying traditional design with modern light fixtures.
The Bar Lighting fixture consists of three independent fixtures, each hanging 55.5” (1,409.7mm) from the ceiling. Interconnected triangular structures, with each being 83 5/16 (2116mm) in length, powered by 6 2700k, 40W LED’s (18 in total) providing uniform lighting while being sustainable over time.
The beautiful geometrical design blends seamlessly with the environment while providing adequate lighting throughout the space. A modem approach to a traditional design setup, the new lighting structures brings a sense of belonging through its brushed brass finish accompanied by dark bronze accents with shaders finished in three beautiful colours, VISO Tabou, Onion Skin White, and Lola Grey.
The Flower Chandelier is delicately constructed with 360 laser-cut triangular shaped pieces in three tones (dark bronze, brushed brass, and polished nickel), assembled in a brushed brass plated structure. With a total of 5 fixtures, 4 with an overall height of 85” (2160mm) and 1 at 127” (3226mm) from the ceiling.
The modern design of the space continues in the restaurant with 6 circular custom chandeliers measuring 52” (1321mm) in diameter. 14 cylindrical lamps hang from a black powder-coated ring. Each fixture hangs 50″ from the ceiling and is powered by 14 6W LED lamps.
